If you already receive the Veterans Tax Exemption you do not need to reapply, the new rate will be adjusted. If you do not already receive the Veterans Tax Exemption you have until March 15, 2023 to apply for the tax bill 2023.

 

Please note, the State of Rhode Island has eliminated motor vehicle taxes. Therefore, there are no motor vehicle tax bills this year

The Food Pantry is for North Smithfield residents.

You must have a photo ID and a bill that confirms your North Smithfield address. You can attend the Food Pantry all four times it is open per month.

The Pantry is located at the Slatersville Congregational Church

UCC on the Common.

 

Starting in the month of May we will be opening our pantry for indoor shopping. We are asking that all clients to please bring their own shopping bag and to wear a mask while inside.

LIVESTREAMING OPEN MEETINGS

A. Livestreaming for Town Council, Halliwell Review Committee, Zoning Board and Planning Board: The Town will provide livestreaming for the open meetings of the Town Council, Halliwell Review Committee, Zoning Board of Review, and Planning Board whenever feasible via YouTube, Zoom, or some other technology. If technical difficulties occur during the livestream of an open meeting, the open meeting will continue to proceed as scheduled without livestreaming. (Livestreaming increases public access to public meetings in addition to the right of the public to attend open meetings in person.)

B. Public must be physically present to participate. Members of the public, applicants, petitioners, expert s, etc. who want to participate in an open meeting in any fashion must be physically present at the meeting. Members of the public, applicants, petitioners, experts, etc. will not be allowed to participate in an open meeting remotely by offering comment, testimony, or other remarks. through virtual means.

C. No other Board, Commission, or Committee will be livestreamed: Except as specified above, the Town will not provide livestreaming for any other Board, Commission or Committee.

D. Technical Difficulties: If technical difficulties occur during any livestream, the open meeting will continue to proceed as scheduled.

The Supreme Court is considering whether Donald Trump is immune from criminal prosecution for acts he took in office. The case before them Thursday centered around Trump's federal election interference charges. Trump's attorney argued prosecuting a president for official acts is "incompatible" with Constitution. The special counsel attorney argued the Constitution does not grant a president absolute immunity.        Former Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein is having his conviction for sex crimes in New York overturned. The New York Court of Appeals ruled Thursday Weinstein did not receive a fair trial. The court found the judge in his trial made an error allowing women to testify about alleged sexual assaults committed by Weinstein that were not part of the charges against him.       Students at Columbia University are filing a federal civil rights lawsuit against the school. They filed the complaint with the U.S. Department of Education's Office for Civil Rights on Thursday, demanding an investigation into the school's actions against pro-Palestinian students. The lawsuit alleges Columbia has mistreated students utilizing their first amendment rights.        The Federal Communications Commission is voting to restore net neutrality rules. The rules block broadband providers from stopping internet traffic to some websites and speeding up access to sites that pay extra fees. Net neutrality rules were passed in 2015 and rolled back under former President Trump in 2017.       The company that owns Google is announcing its first-ever dividend. Alphabet on Thursday announced a dividend of 20 cents per share and a stock buyback of 70-billion dollars.        A new study says there's a shortage of veterinarians in the U.S. and the problem could get worse. Researchers at Mars Veterinary Health have found 47 states are currently facing some sort of veterinarian shortage, and one factor may be the high cost of veterinarian school
