City Council Special Meeting - Nov 27 2023

Hunter Biden is withdrawing an appeal of his gun conviction. Lawyers for the President's son uploaded the appeal in a Delaware federal court today, then quickly withdrew it without explanation. Hunter was found guilty for unlawfully purchasing a gun while addicted to drugs. He faces up to 25 years in prison.       The Midwest and Northeast are bracing for a massive heatwave. The National Weather Service says daytime highs could be 15 to 20 degrees above normal today and even hotter through the rest of the week. Temperatures are expected to soar from the Great Lakes into the Northeast, including cities like Chicago, Detroit, Cleveland, New York City and Boston.        Hundreds of firefighters are battling a wind driven wildfire north of Los Angeles. The Post Fire in Gorman started Saturday afternoon and has exploded to cover more than 14-thousand-600 acres. So far it has forced 12-hundred people to evacuate and destroyed at least two structures. LA County fire officials say the fire is just eight-percent contained. Officials have warned more residents in the potential path of the fire to be prepared to leave.       Maryland is issuing mass pardons for marijuana convictions. Maryland Governor Wes Moore signed the executive order today issuing over 175-thousand pardons. He called it "the most sweeping state-level pardon in any state in American history." Cannabis was made legal for recreational use for adults in Maryland last July.        NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell is expected to testify today in a trial over the league's Sunday Ticket package. In 2015, subscribers of the package filed a class action lawsuit claiming the league used its agreements with broadcast partners to keep tight control over telecast distribution. They argue that allowed DirecTV to artificially inflate prices for Sunday Ticket as the only distributor for out-of-market games. The trial got underway in Los Angeles earlier this month.       "Inside Out 2" is coming up big at the box office. The Pixar sequel scored 155-million-dollars in its opening weekend. It'll be the first release to earn a nine-figure domestic opening in almost 11 months. "Bad Boys: Ride or Die" fell to second place with "Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes" finishing third over the weekend.
